These are the FFDD26 competition films
Drum roll - these are our competition films of the 38 FILMFEST DRESDEN 2026!
A total of 65 short films from 36 countries have been invited to the three competitions of the 38th festival edition. From around 3,800 submissions, the selection committees chose 34 (co-)productions for the International Competition, 24 entries for the National Competition, and seven works for the Central German Competition. Among the competition films are eight world premieres, 12 German premieres, and two European premieres. The films compete for a total of 17 “Golden Horsemen” awards as well as special prizes.
The competition films originate from 36 (co-)producing countries. The International Competition features productions from, among others, China, Haiti, Cuba, Morocco, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Serbia. The National Competition also reflects strong international connections: five films were produced as international co-productions, including partners from Peru, Côte d’Ivoire, and the United States.
The competition films of the 38 Filmfest Dresden address key social issues of our time. Prominent themes include work, loneliness, (queer) identity, and migration, explored through documentary, fictional, and experimental forms.
