You enjoy watching films? You have an opinion – and you like to share it? And watching 200 short films over three months sounds more like an easy challenge than something off-putting? Then you might be exactly who we’re looking for.

From autumn 2026, FILMFEST DRESDEN is looking for several pre-selectors for the International Competition – especially people based in Dresden and Saxony. We want to open up and enrich our selection processes by bringing in new viewpoints, different experiences and diverse perspectives.

We are looking for people who not only enjoy watching films, but also like to reflect on them and contribute their own perspective to the selection process. No prior experience in film is required.

What is it about?

As a pre-selector, you will watch international short films over several weeks and share short written impressions. What caught your attention? What surprised, irritated or moved you – or maybe even annoyed you? That’s all it takes.

You are not a jury member and you do not make final decisions. Your impressions complement the work of the selection committee and provide an additional perspective within the selection process.

What we are looking for

• Interest in contributing to an international short film festival
• Interest in film, culture and/or social issues
• Willingness to share your perceptions and opinions
• Openness towards different cinematic forms, narratives and themes
• No prior experience in film required
• Minimum age: 18 (no upper age limit)
• Good English skills to read subtitles and write short comments in English

What to expect

• Pre-selection of 150-250 international short films over a period of around three months
• Flexible schedule, fully remote
• Insight into the selection processes of an internationally renowned short film festival
• Exchange with the festival team
• An allowance as recognition for your contribution
• Invitation to FILMFEST DRESDEN in April

Good to know

• Places are limited – not all applicants can be selected
• Final decisions remain with the selection committee
• We particularly welcome applications from people who are often underrepresented in cultural and film-related contexts
