Preview on FFDD26: Tribute to Jyoti Mistry
At this year’s FILMFEST DRESDEN, the versatile artist Jyoti Mistry is the focus of a special tribute. As a filmmaker, installation artist and scholar, she operates at the intersections of art, cinema and critical visual practice. For Mistry, film is far more than a narrative medium – it serves as a form of insight that makes images visible as carriers of history whilst simultaneously questioning their hidden mechanisms.
From a deliberately non-Western perspective, she develops formally bold cinematic essays in which archive material, amateur footage and colonial imagery are re-edited and reinterpreted. The result is a poetic, open cinema that straddles the lines between documentary, experiment and reflection, bringing marginalised perspectives back into view. Alongside works screened internationally, the festival will also present a world premiere and an accompanying masterclass, offering deeper insights into Mistry’s artistic practice.
