Preview FFDD25: Focus Québec

Cinema has the power to shift perspectives, open hearts, and spark dialogue. As the guest curator of this Québec special, Lawrence Côté-Collins has chosen to amplify the voices of female filmmakers. The numbers speak for themselves: since the founding of the Cannes Film Festival, only two female directors have won the Palme d’Or, and in over 90 years of Oscar history, only one woman has won Best Picture.

Short films often struggle for recognition, yet they hold immense emotional and political power. At a time when male dominance is on the rise again, making space for diverse stories is more important than ever.

This program is meant to be a moment of hope and inspiration – a space for powerful images, fresh perspectives, and true diversity.
