FFDD26 Outlook: Regional Focus with Works by Ernst Hirsch

This year, our Regional Focus takes us deep into Saxony's cinematic history – and at the same time pays tribute to one of the most influential figures in local documentary filmmaking: Ernst Hirsch, cameraman, director, archivist and passionate chronicler of his city.

To mark his 90th birthday, we are opening up part of his private film archive in collaboration with the SLUB project SAVE. The rare footage shows Dresden and the surrounding region at historic moments, in everyday life and through changing times.

SAVE – supported by the Saxon State Library – Dresden State and University Library (SLUB) and the Saxony Film Association – is once again curating the Regional Focus at the 38 FILMFEST DRESDEN, making new film testimonies from archives, collections and private hands accessible.
