FFDD21: All award-winning films


This evening the winners of the 33 Filmfest Dresden from the National, International and Regional Competition were announced. A total of nine Golden Horsemen and seven special prizes worth 70,500 euros were awarded at the festive awards ceremony at the Schauburg Filmtheatre. The juries as well as the audience chose their favourites from 72 short films in the three competitions.

The Film Prize of the Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, endowed with 20,000 euros, donated by the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism went to the animated film DOOM CRUISE by Hannah Stragholz and Simon Steinhorst. The Golden Horseman for Best Animated Film in the International Competition went to the German-Bulgarian production AIVA by Veneta Androva, which also received the LUCA Film Award for GenderDiversity. In the National Competition, Shoko Hara was awarded a Golden Horseman for Best Animation for JUST A GUY. The film also received a Golden Horseman for Best Sound. The Audience Golden Horseman in the National Competition went to YALLAH HABIBI by Mahnas Sarwari. In the International Competition, the audience chose KHARCHANG (CRAB) by Shiva Sadegh Asadi, which not only received a Golden Horseman but also an Honourable Mention from the Youth Jury.

In the Regional Competition (Regional Film Night), the audience chose the short documentary KEPP SHIFTIN' by Verena Wagner as the favourite.

The two new prizes went to MEX AND THE ANIMALS by Elisa Gleize from Canada ("fully political" - Short Film Prize of the Saxon State Agency for Civic Education) and PLAY SCHENGEN by Gunhild Enger from Norway (Dresden Short Film Prize of the Association of German Film Critics).

All award-winning films will be screened on Sunday, 18 July 2021 in three programmes at the Filmtheater Schauburg, the Programmkino Ost and the Lingnerschloss.
