SUMMARY:Youtube Killed the Videostar – Astoria Music Film Night
DESCRIPTION:The interplay of music and video has revolutionised our pop culture. Music videos are more than just a visual extension to music. They magnify the emotions of a song\, link it to a specific aesthetic and\, as such\, are a distinct form of short film. Their importance has\, however\, evolved over time. They shaped the daily lives of people growing in the 1980s and ’90s\, functioning as a gateway to the world\, a projection screen and a shared experience. They shaped fashion\, language\, dance styles and identity\, as well as creating stars. Sadly\, this era is now over. MTV and VIVA have become history\, with social media dominating the music landscape today. \nBut even after the demise of the music television era\, the music video still has a future\, and that on the cinematic silver screens. The latest music videos vibrate between commercialism and cult\, between trash and art\, between AI and analogue film. Our programme is screening classics\, showcasing the stars of tomorrow and combining local and international (music) video art.\n\nThe programme venue consists of the former ASTORIA ballroom\, which as a building is being refurbished and reinvented to become a cultural hub. Before the ASTORIA officially opens as a venue for films\, concerts and special events\, FILMFEST DRESDEN is celebrating the premiere of the ASTORIA Music Film Night here – in cooperation with the FILM NIGHTS ON THE BANKS OF THE ELBE. \n\nCurated by Sylke Gottlebe\, Matthias Pfitzner\, Sven Pötting
