DESCRIPTION:“[...] the monstrous [gender] exists in a ‘liminal zone’ [...]\, marking the boundary between the human and the non-human.” Judith Butler\n\nThe programme merges fictional horror\, queer formal experiments and animation into a boundary-pushing\, neon-coloured feverish dream brimming with dark humour and visual excesses. Since the dawn of cinema\, villains and monsters from Frankenstein to Dracula have often been queer coded: malevolently others\, serving as projections of fear and fascination\, yet morally condemned by a heteronormative society. The films in this programme thwart these attributions to reclaim the monstrous and celebrate it in a riot of colour. Characters turn against their authors and expose the violence of normative narratives. Melting\, divergent and hybrid bodies experience transformations as both dysphoric horror and liberation. The act of filmmaking itself becomes part of the narratives. Its limitations and contradictions flow into the narratives and make the struggle for queer empowerment perceptible: with animated laboratories\, mystical heroines\, sex toys brought to life and acts of revenge in the movie theatre.
