SUMMARY:Nominees: Golden Horseman Sound Design
DESCRIPTION:When watching a film\, we are initially captivated by its images. Yet its impact only unfolds in its entirety through its finely tuned interplay with the audio track – the artistic discipline termed the sound design. For film not only inscribes itself on our eyes\, but also on our ears: Sounds\, atmospheres and even silence shape meaning\, structure time and intensify emotions. It is only through the all-embracing sound aesthetic concept that a sensory coherence emerges which interconnects the characters\, spaces and objects\, permitting the viewers to immerse themselves deeply in cinematic worlds.\nSound design is thus far more than mere acoustic accompaniment. It is a narrative power\, a source of rhythm\, a resonant space. Sounds create transitions\, set counterpoints and reveal imaginary spaces beyond the visible. They model proximity and distance\, making the intimate audible and the invisible tangible. It is not uncommon for the sound to set the dramatic tone of a film – sometimes quietly and subtly\, at other times radically and “sound-breaking”.\nThese works have been created for the cinema auditoria\, for the space where the soundscape can be experienced physically. This is where\, ideally speaking\, these films should be screened and received – and of course it is where our pre-jury and jury members also viewed the nominated works. By awarding the Golden Horseman Sound Design\, the jury consisting of Alma Weber\, Eyup Kuş und Eduardo Mamede is honouring an outstanding artistic achievement\, as well as unique creativity and the highest quality in the film auditory area.\nAt the screening for the Golden Horseman Sound Design\, that is being sponsored by the Ballroom Studios\, up to ten films are being shown to the public. They have been selected by a pre-jury consisting of young musicians from all of the competition entries as being especially distinctive\, innovative and impressive in terms of their soundscapes. Get ready for a programme that opens your ears\, challenges your listening habits and shows you just how powerful cinema can sound!\n\nSven Pötting
