815.9 Kilometers of Film submitted

With a Schnapszahl – a lucky repeat number in German – of 2,222 entries, films the length of 815.9 kilometres in total have been submitted to Filmfest Dresden this year. And now the work begins for the viewing and selection committee, whose members will look at all of the submissions by mid February. They will have many opportunities to discover numerous highly unusual film countries doing so, from Madagascar to Kosovo, Mozambique and Ghana. These are accompanied by a further 77 countries in addition to Germany with its national entries. Yet again, short fiction films represent the main genre with 1,419 applications, further to 550 animated films, 137 documentaries and 116 experimental shorts – all attesting to the wide range of styles in the submissions.
