FILMFEST DRESDEN celebrated its 25th anniversary from 16 to 21 April 2013. In total, 2,618 films from 82 countries were submitted to the festival. 36 films were selected from these to compete in the International Competition and 30 films in the National Competition. In addition to the competitions, the festival presented 26 special programmes, including the 5x5 Event Series, dedicated to the early days and original locations of the festival, as well as the following highlights: a tribute to the director David Takaishvili, the retrospective "Traumschmelze – German Drawn Animation Film 1930-1950" as well as the Greece and Portugal Specials and the Animation Exchange Forum.
