Short on Film – Long in Pleasure
FRIENDS OF FILMFEST DRESDEN
The FRIENDS OF FILMFEST DRESDEN, newly founded in 2015, supports the festival together with many further partners in bringing international filmmakers and young talents to the capital city of Saxony and presenting the highly diverse Panorama programme annually.
In addition to the promotion of short film and the desire to increase the awareness among the general public for this cinematic form, Filmfest Dresden aims to establish a high-quality cultural programme in Dresden with an international reach and appeal. FILMFEST DRESDEN views itself as more than just a specialist event, but also as a festival for the general public, one that gives the audiences and the filmmakers opportunities to have contacts, discussions and exchanges with each other. The festival’s focus here underscores the self-image of the city of Dresden as a metropolis of culture open to the world.
Filmfest Dresden is counted among the festivals in Europe with the highest prize money – with this intended as a clear sign of the festival’s support for young talent. Each year when it comes to sponsoring and funding the awards and prize money, we are dependent of the vigorous support of our many partners. The award sponsors to date have included the Minister of Saxony for Science and the Arts, the ARTE and MDR television broadcasters, the Sächsische Zeitung newspaper, the DEFA Foundation, the Drewag GmbH utility company and the Saxon Institute for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) private broadcasters support body. In the future we would like, with the help of the FRIENDS OF FILMFEST DRESDEN, to sponsor the Golden Horseman Animated Film International Competition award and thus foster and promote highly promising young talent each year.
